I am currently negotiating with the client regarding site maintenance. The current site was built with a custom theme from other developers who no longer work for the client. I don’t have too much knowledge in writing php code, but I can figure out what the code does. I know that after some time it will be time to upgrade plugins and wordpress and there is a possibility that the site will no longer function properly. I’m not sure I could pick up on what other developers have done and I think I’d waste too much time researching if the code stopped working.
Has anyone found themselves in the same situation and what did you do? Have you offered a client to build a new site or were you trying to work on someone else’s code?
Note: This is a big deal for the client and is looking to keep the site functional in the long run
