Thankfully I don’t use WP Engine but it’s terrifying Matt essentially is the sole controller of the WordPress foundation and doesn’t really have to answer to anyone.
Attention WPEngine lawyers: I have screenshots saved for when this inevitably gets taken down. Hit me up.
As a WPEngine user, I’ll also happily testify as someone who was harmed by Matt’s actions.
Maybe it’s brutal, but it’s also just good marketing. I’m surprised other hosts haven’t done the same… yet.
I find it wild that anyone uses either to be honest. Can’t understand why anyone doesn’t just spin up a VPS and have much finer control over their installs.
Edit: I think this says somewhat about the technical competency of some users.
This could do irreparable damage to WordPress as a whole. Now potential clients and competitors can point to shit like this and say “The WordPress can just disable major functions of your website at will like they did that one time with WPEngine.”
Is Matt having some kind of episode??
If I wanted a vertically integrated website, I’d have chosen Wix or something. Is he going after AWS Lightsail and other cloud hosts next?
I want to be sure, but this only impacts those who uses the wordpress.com and managed wordpress hosting, right? This has no impact on any of us who download the software and host it ourselves, right?
So frustrating idk what to comment
If any of you get infected or hacked because you couldn’t update WordPress or your plugins through the dashboard, document that shit and give that info to whatever lawyer files the class action suit.
WHO THE FUCK spends $45/month on ANY ‘managed wordpress hosting’
fuck ALL shared hosts!~
Harming another company’s reputation does not make your company look better.
You would have to be out of your mind to trust Pressable at this point. Dude has a bad day and your livelihood is at stake. Not a serious company.
It only gets worse, holy shit.
Disgusting business practices. Scary time to be a user, developer or hoster.
Deplorable.
What a douchebag. Straight up douchebag. Just another rich asshole doing dumb shit.
Antitrust
Divest Matt from WP. It’s the only way forward
What he is doing right now is literally causing performance issues in my dashboards on WPE.
> Want to Break Free from Your WP Engine Contract? We’ll Cover the Cost.
This is **WILD.**
