Migrate from Umbraco To WordPress

[ad_1]

Hi Folks,

Newbie web designer here.

I’ve got a client who currently has their website built on **Umbraco CMS**. I’m rebuilding their website from scratch in **WordPress**.

The Client has recently renewed Hosting for another two years. Their website address/domain is not changing either.

I am not sure how I can build their new WordPress site on their existing hosting without affecting their current site built on Umbraco until I am ready to cutover. Seeking advice on how to go about it.

* Can I build a new WordPress website on a **sub**\-domain on their *existing* hosting without affecting their current Umbraco website? Once I’ve finished building the website on the subdomain, I can then delete Umbraco CMS on the *main* domain, set up WordPress (on the main domain) and export my webpages from the subdomain. Is this a good way to go about it?

* If the answer to the above question is NO, can I build a new WordPress site from scratch on an **add-on** domain on their existing hosting without affecting their current website? ill need to buy a new domain just for this purpose.

I am based in Melbourne, Australia. Hosting provider is Conetix.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

  1. WordPress is built on PHP and Umbraco is ASP.NET- They really should have reviewed their hosting plan before renewing as they have different requirements. Typically Umbraco is on an IIS server and WP on Apache / NGINIX.

I would imagine the host should hopefully let you swap to an appropriate plan and credit what’s been paid.

You could set up a dev.clientdomain.com and build on there using the same hosting with WP in its own directory.
