My wordpress site runs in aws lightsail, setup was done using bitnami. I’m new to wp. I just want to enable email notifications in case of website goes down for now. With security as first priority, which is the best way to achieve this. May try complete monitoring tools later. A recommendation on this also would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure I understand your mention of security. If you want to be notified when your site goes down you can’t rely on your site to be the one doing the monitoring.
The free monitoring provided by [UptimeRobot.com]) will likely more than suffice for what you need.
