Hi @eheijns thanks for getting in touch. When checking your sites source code I can see references to several different Analytics properties which have been placed manually as you have stated and by Site Kit.

To begin with I would recommend removing any manually placed Analytics snippets. Once removed go to Site Kit > Settings > Connected services > Analytics > Edit and check the GA4 property that’s currently listed. If this is not the property you wish to have connected then you can change this from the GA4 property drop down. If the property you wish to use is not an option then you may need to change the account from the account dropdown. If you still can’t find the property you are looking for then you are likely signed in with a Google account that does not have access to this property.

You can check for your GA4 property from your Analytics account to ensure you are using the correct Google account with Site Kit. Let me know how you get on with all of this and please feel free to share any recordings or screenshots as that will help if you face any further issues or confusion.

Edit: I can see my colleague already responded to you.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your reply. How do I remove the Google tags on my website? What is the preferred way? I have many pages. Do I have to remove the tags on all my pages one by one. If so, how? I googled, but can’t find how I should do this. Adding code is easy, but removing??? (Sorry, I’m obviously not experienced in this)

@eheijns This entirely depends on how the properties were placed on your site. If they were placed by a third party plugin then you should have the option to remove them via that plugins settings. If they were placed manually then you will need to manually remove them from wherever they were placed in the source code of your site. We are unable to help you remove these as this falls out of the scope of the support we provide here.

That’s totally understandable but as mentioned above you should be able to remove the code in a similar way to how it was placed. Once removed, I’d be happy to check your site source code once more to see if there are any remaining snippets in the code.

Let me know if you have any Site Kit questions in the meantime.

I have no clue anymore how to remove code on my website. I did it once before, but can’t remember now. Can someone please tell me how I can do that?

Regarding the GA4:

The correct GA4 tag is G-4YYZX1K8EC because that’s what the Tag instructions say in Google Analytics.

In Google Site Kit, the measurement tag NOW is the correct one: G-4YYZX1K8EC. How did that happen??? It changes repeatedly, yesterday it was the correct one, this morning it was the incorrect one and now it’s the correct one again…

So I guess I have to remove the obsolete GA4 tags in my website code, but how…

Perhaps I should do a restore of my website from before I added code snippets? But then the correct GA4 code snippet is removed as well, since I added it with WPCode.

@eheijns Glad to hear that Site Kit is now displaying the expected GA4 property for you. This should not change unless manually changed in the settings by you so if this does change again then please let us know and we can look into that for you.

We are unable to assist with the removal of the other properties as we can’t say how they were added to the site. We provide support for the Site Kit plugin here so any code placed either by a third party plugin or manually falls out of the scope of our support. I would suggest checking any plugins you may have used to place code to see if you can remove the placed code from your site. I am unable to recommend you performing a site restore and that would be entirely your decision to make.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.

Come to think of it, I have no idea how the following code snippets entered my website:

G-5YHT1VWLT9
G-6WLDQ2RTWF
G-4492EQDGWG

I added the correct one G-4YYZX1K8EC with WPCode. So, this leaves me with the question how I can remove the obsolete ones.

Thanks for the replies. I can’t tell how the wrong code sippets entered my website. I have no way to find out. It must have happened months ago when I first began using GA. I don’t have backups from that time.

One more strange thing: Google Site Kit says:

Google Analytics 4 Code Snippet

Snippet is not inserted”

While I added the code using WPCode.

Couple of more questions: Is it harmfull? Can you maybe suggest how to remove the incorrect GA4 code snippets?

@eheijns Having the other Analytics snippets on your site alongside Site Kits placed snippet is not harmful to your site however it is not recommended to have multiple analytics snippets from multiple sources so we’d advise removing any you do not wish to use.

As mentioned above, we are unable to assist with how you remove the redundant Analytics code snippets as these have not been placed via Site Kit. I hope you are able to find and remove these.

Thanks for your reply. I have no idea how the wrong GA4 code snippets entered my website. Perhaps when I started using GA months ago. I have since used a few Header Footer injection pluigins. Can’t remember which ones.

Could a software developer I can hire on Fiverr or something for a few bucks resolve this for me?
