Do I even have a WordPress site? I don’t go to WordPress.com or WordPress.org to access it. I can only get to it from namecheap.com and it’s inside an app called EasyWP. I can’t keep up with all the drama this Matt guy is causing but I don’t think it’ll affect me anyway? Right?
EDIT: I would very much appreciate an ELI5 or a TLDR version of these current events. What is WordPress Engine or is it WP Engine? I’m unsure what the problem even is.

You should be fine. He’s picking a fight with a specific company over what he says was an agreement to give back to the community, and it allegedly has not. Most common web hosting providers like yours are not his target, and not part of this at all.
Namecheap offers “WordPress Hosting” so they should be in the same boat as WP Engine but, who’s really counting ya know? /Jk
I use namecheap myself. It’s great.
It won’t affect the average user, even average WP Engine users shouldn’t really be affected in the long term.
