New to WP, having a problem with the basics

I’m in the early stages of laying the foundation for my site.
I’m trying to add pages so that I can then add menu navigation. However, when I try to publish a new page, it seems to just freeze. It’s been “Publishing…..” for about 10 minutes now. Any insight as to why, or how to fix this?
