Hey guys,
I tried looking for someone with a similar issue, but most doesn’t seem too similar to mine, so I’m trying my luck with my own post.
My issue: I run an esports league and we have a website with WordPress. We use it as a digital “clubhouse” with league information, player information, results, etc etc.
We recently added a “News” section to our website, where we’ll regularly update with league stuff, but also articles, news and interviews from our esport.
For this, we have brought a guy to our team, who we think is perfect to be in charge of the news section. However, the issue arises when we have to add him as a user, more specifically an administrator to the website. Whenever we add him, it is supposed to send him a confirmation e-mail where he can set up his password, so he will be able to log in to the website and do the admin stuff that he is supposed to do.
However, he never receives that e-mail. We have tried with his main e-mail, his secondary e-mail and even having him create a 3rd e-mail, but it just won’t send any emails to him so he can get properly signed up and able to login.
The thing is, we already have \~15 staff members for our league who are perfectly signed up on our website, who had NO issues whatsoever receiving the mail and signing up.
So why won’t it suddenly send any e-mail to our newest staff member?
We do run a few plugins, but nothing that would interfere with the emailing, as far as we can tell.
I’ve tried to read up on issues like this, and almsot all of them says to add an SMTP server. But why would I need to do that, when it worked perfectly without it for our FIFTEEN other staff members?
I’m stumped about this issue and it’s really having a negative impact on the running start that we wanted the news section to have.
Anyone knows what I might do to fix the issue?
Thanks in advance, and please let me know if you need any further information to assist me

You do need smtp. Maybe your host doesn’t support php mail sending any more? Maybe they have a new modsec rule in place? Php mail handling is a gamble at the best of times. Just set up a free smtp account at sendgrid and use the plugin postSMTP on your site. This free plugin also has a log for recording sendability, so it’s a good free combo
