Old plugins

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

I’m running our company’s website on WordPress and I’ve noticed it’s pretty slow at times. Whatruns shows a bunch of old plugins I deleted long ago and they’re not present in wp-content/plugins either. Could this be a reason why the site is sluggish? Is the data from the old plugins still lurking somewhere?

  1. “pretty slow at times”, so not all the time, is key here and could be solely related to your hosting / server or even some other scheduled events related to your website (like backups, caching, etc and other scripts you can’t even see from the website backend). This is not something you can receive an exact answer for unless thorough investigation / troubleshooting has been performed.

Whatruns is not a tool you should consider as competent in this case (or at all), as it just might be using cached information.

To optimize the database, you can use WP Optimize, or perhaps some other plugins that might be even better, I guess someone will suggest their plugins of choice [https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-optimize/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-optimize/)

To see what’s actually running on your website, you can use the Query Monitor [https://wordpress.org/plugins/query-monitor/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/query-monitor/)

And to check what’s related to your website environment, you can check in with your hosting support and ask them what scripts / scheduled events they run
