What you observed is right and is a side effect of fixing for issues like this one where users were losing information during a file upload. I didn’t realize at the time, but I just tested this to find out.
Previously parenthesis was also lost with the other information. It made it impossible to use such characters and was a source of frustration.
Unfortunately I don’t have a solution to offer at the moment since it’s got to be either one or the other.
However, removing parenthesis (and many more special characters) is available (and was always there since the beginning) with Image Attributes Pro‘s Advanced filter.
