That’s strange – I use exactly this on my own website without any problem, see for yourself, in German this text was translated to “Mich per E-Mail benachrichtigen, wenn jemand auf meinen Kommentar antwortet.”:
So generally it should work. Did you check that the language code of the website is identical to the language used in the translation?
Using Loco translate, I created a new language translation file and selected “Custom” as the storage location.
I’ve confirmed that my site language and the translation language are the same.
I’ve translated several strings and none of them work.
However, when I changed the location of my loco translation to “Author” instead of custom, all the translated strings show correctly. The problem is my translation will get deleted if I update the plugin.
I can see your German translation with all the other language translations and all of them are located under “author” so that’s why you can see your German translations.
It seems the function which loads the translations was called too early, before LOCO Translate has a chance to override it. I fixed that. Release 1.29.0 should now also work with LOCO Translate custom translations.
If you want to get new translations included in the next updates you can also send me your translations files as well.
