So I purchased a license for this theme in 2021 and installed it on a domain, activated the license and deactivated it right after and deleted the theme because I didn't like it, did the same for a secone time on a different domain, but in the third time it worked and looked okay so I kept the license active on that domain. But soon after customer's business closed down and they didn't renew the domain, so basically the theme license is not in use anymore, the other two domains also died, now in 2024, I wanted to deactivate the theme license from the theme's author's dashboard, I couldn't do it as they said I can't do that and gave me a link to Envato licensing policy. I left a 1 star review because of that customer service experience. Now Envato had emailed me asking me to buy two additional licenses for the theme for the domains that it used to be active on for a day while I was testing it.
I associate Envato with cheap and low quality and scam
Who was that author? Did you contact the theme author to resolve this?
If a license is currently active somewhere else, sometimes you can’t remove it by entering it on a new site. This is to protect you as well, for instance you’re running a stable website and the license being stolen and somebody uses your license somewhere else. This also prevents pirating activities.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not on either side. Just try to explain things and why sometimes It’s that inconvenient. I know Envato has poor reputation for lot of trash stuff but they’re not that irrational on this license stuff.
So if that theme author is still active, please contact them instead of Envato, they’ll help you to resolve it. There’re 2 ways I often see: They will either detach license attached to old domains manually, or give you a license managing website so you can see which domains your licenses are being used. Envato is out of this story, each theme has their own license managing method.
I don’t exclude the case that theme author is really trashy. That’s why I asked for the author. For top and still-active authors, I’m pretty sure you can resolve this without having to buy anything.
