My job wants me to make there custom built wp theme compatible with Elementor’s Drag & Drop and update it to the the latest word press and PHP version.

I’ve never created a theme or used Elementor before. I have all the code.

Here are my questions:
How should I even begin? lol
Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on how to make a existing theme compatible with Elementor and updated with the newest PHP and WP versions?
Can I use the CSS from the current site’s theme and build out the new theme on Elementor’s Hello theme as a Parent and then create a Child theme so they can make revisions by there self and the word press can get updates and the site wont break?
Or should I use underscores or understap to build the Parent theme then make it compatible with Elementor and make a child theme of that so they can make revisions by there self and the word press can get updates and the site wont break?

You would use Elementor’s theme builder to re-create the theme from scratch.
Without knowing more about what customizations have been made, we can’t tell you whether this will be fully possible with Elementor — you may still have to add custom code on top of Elementor.
Your suggestion to use Hello and its child are the right direction to start.
