Hello everyone. Sorry if this is a common question, as I am very new as a freelancer. I recently found my first potential client. I’ve met them irl and they are the nicest person ever. I would love to make a website for them and help drive more traffic to their business (coffee shop) but the only thing holding me back is a potential ADA lawsuit. I’ve heard horror stories about these shakedowns, how businesses have to cough up thousands to settle the cases. Based on what I’ve read, you could get sued even if the site follows all guidelines.
I really don’t want this client to get sued, like literally they are so nice and only deserve good things. I know accessibility is important of course, and I always try my best to follow WCAG guidelines when i design websites. I also know about accessibility plugins like accessibe and plan to use those when the website goes live. My question is: Are ADA lawsuits a legitimate concern? How common are they? Anything else I should know? Thanks everyone.
