Should I take this job?

[ad_1]

So I started learning WordPress a year ago and did a couple generic websites. I haven’t really messed with it in a while, but a friend of a family member asked me I would be willing to update their site. From what I can tell it’s fairly outdated and they want to update/ make it more functional. It’s not currently in WordPress but I would use WordPress. There’s probably 15 pages on the site.

Apparently their budget is 10k. (To me that seems like a lot).

Do you think I’m on over my head with this?

How long would you say to complete this?

This might be a good first gig

  1. That’s a solid first gig.

    Do the due diligence.

Get a list of requirements from your client. Create a project plan and architect each “template” and its components, identifying any reusable components.

Put that in to a timeline with milestones.

Hire a designer if you’re not one. At least for a brand refresh.

Lastly, dispel all insecurities about the job and trust your ability.

  2. Do it. But communicate your experience. Also price correctly. Don’t simply take the 10k and build a simple facelift. Create the first “Prestige” Project for your portfolio.

  3. I also think for that price point hire a designer. Should be anywhere between $150-$300 for a 15 page build on fiver and upwork with a valid seller, choosing wisely. Turnaround time should be 7-10 days. Then if you’re comfortable with the development go for it, just give a good estimate and plan accordingly with website content and strategy.

  4. If you want – feel free to message me, 20 year WP dev here. Can help you through some of the sticky bits.
