I have only very basic WordPress skills, and I manage a site that uses the [Coldbox theme](https://coldbox.miruc.co/). (Someone else set this site up–that person is no longer around.)
A couple of the pages are fairly long. Right now the longer pages are set up with the [lightweight accordion](https://wordpress.org/plugins/lightweight-accordion/) plugin, where subheadings appear as folded up sections and you click a little triangle to see more. I would prefer a navigation menu in a sidebar, where the subheadings would appear in a list in the sidebar, and clicking a subheading would scroll you down to that part of the page while the sidebar stayed in place. This functionality would be similar to the [“document outline”](https://support.google.com/docs/answer/6367684) in Google Docs, except that it would not toggle between show/hide, it would always show.
Surely there is a way to set this up in WP, but all I seem to find are ways to put the site menu in a sidebar. I don’t want to touch the site menu (currently in a site header). I want an additional page outline to display in the sidebar of that page only. I can build a page outline using the anchor links on the page, it doesn’t need to be automatically created like the document outline in Google Docs, but how do I get the outline into the sidebar on one page only?. I’ve spent time googling, asking AI bot, reading plugin descriptions, and I’m hopelessly overwhelmed.
Can anyone suggest a widget or a help site or something? I will just stick with lightweight accordion if I need to, but I would like to improve.
