I’m doing a bit of hybrid stuff, with my site aimed at documenting all of my weird DIY projects related to everything (hacking hardware and software together for DIY projects, 3d printing, photography, extreme macro, little rants).
Before I’ve tried to create a site documenting things, but plugins I used many years ago seemed to create odd folder structures. It would be nice for a gallery to create easy to manage folders like /bees/photos\*jpg, or trees/photos\*jpg, or waferpics/photos\*jpg so hotlinking if I want to the original photo is easy for me to find. Sizing and resolution options that aren’t hard to implement are nice.

I’d also like pretty enough gallery pages of my work, but I don’t always need absolutely exceptional, perfectly curated collections that I have to spend a ton of time on making pretty. I’m trying to focus less on selling my “brand” than documenting projects and showing people gorgeous things. Sometimes I just want a big page with several sections of different subjects combined in one page, with galleries of subject A, B, C on the page with headers or annotations for each section or certain images. But I’m not sure how to manage folder structures to keep things sane with that too.
It would be nice if on certain pages I could have select galleries with ordering options below images. I’m good at other types of tech integration, so I can work around some aspects of this, but easier is nicer. Happy with flat prices per size that are just sent to me, potentially, since I won’t sell things I haven’t printed myself already and am happy with.
Anyone have any tips on what I should learn or lookup, to avoid what I did previously which was spiral with indecision and end up with fragmented, duplicate files in hard to navigate folder structures? I know I’m not great with wordpress, but I always end up in a little black hole trying to do what I want.
