Single Page Site

[ad_1]

Hi all,

I’m looking at creating a single page site with scrolling navigation. I’ve had a developer give me an overpriced quote which lead me to ask, how hard can it be?

I’ve looked into design process, it looks as though I need to start with a plug in such as elementor to help with the drag and drop design. Any other alternative plug ins you would suggest which may be better?

Also I was hoping to try create this site before signing up to a monthly bill, however it looks as though you need to sign up for the £32 a month ‘creator’ plan before you can proceed with themes, plug ins etc.

If anyone has any advice, videos / articles I can read to help me on this process that would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

  1. Don’t use WordPress.com.

Download localWP. Create a local wp instance to dev in.

Even a single page site needs some skill to pull off.

Out of curiosity what did the dev quote you?

  2. Get a regular hosting, and use wordpress itself. Most hosts have one click installers.

For a single page site, basically a landing page, me for example I quote the customer between $200 – $500 depending on the features (some require various complex calculators to be developed, API calls, etc)

If someone asked you more for that then its clearly overpriced. Timewise should take 2-3-10 hrs to build all depending on features.

  3. The price your writing is for the entire Elementor platform. Including hosting.
You can use any host you wish
    Elementor page builder is free.
For the scrolling part you can use a plugin like Page Scroll to ID
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/page-scroll-to-id/

In a website, creating the branding is the time consuming work. Adding pages is an easy task. So one page or many, the effort is pretty much the same.
I usually charge $99 to build using Astra Pro theme and Elementor.

  4. you just need to use anchor links. Which is a link that goes to a # tag id. There’s a little bit of JavaScript that handles the animated scrolling part. It’s all pretty easy once you understand the simple concept of anchor links

  5. Did you try to find a cheaper dev service? It can’t cost more than a couple hundreds a year and you have the website ready in less than a week. Hosting included. This type of website does not need plugins, WordPress, or Elementor. Opt for someone who can build it in HTML and CSS so you can reap all of the benefits of having an instant website (better positioning in Google search => more clients.

  6. Why do you think it’s an overpriced quote?

For a single page site, I wouldn’t use WP. Plain HTML CSS and JS will do.

  7. Why do you need plugins for a single page website?

If you want to use WordPress.com, you could build this on a free plan using one of the newer “block” themes (Twenty Twenty-Four for instance) and upgrade later to remove ads and use a custom domain name.

If you prefer using WordPress.org, you can build it locally (Local WP works great) and migrate/publish it when it’s ready.

You can also try InstaWP if you just want to play around a little bit.
