So Confused, help?

This might be a lot but I’m trying to wrap my head around all of this. I have a Wix subscription and my current website I believe is hosted by them. I have been told for my ecommerce and what I’m trying to do, that I need to switch over to WordPress with Woocommerce. I purchased the WordPress creator package, and basically now I just need to get my six page site converted over to WordPress. I attempted a migration, but it was not what I was expecting. I consulted a few professionals on Fiverr, and they have mentioned that I need to purchase hosting, however, I believe I have hosting with creator? This is all beyond my technical knowledge. The end result I’m looking for is basically a redesign of the current information on my six page site, approximately 15 products, with eventually adding Woocommerce. I’m not even sure of the terminology so all of this may sound ridiculous to all of you. Where would be the best place to find someone that can do this work on my limited budget? What kind of fee am I looking at? I’ve seen quotes from $100-$2500, but it seems like this would be only 2-3 hours work based on how long it took me to create my original site on Wix.

  1. You’ve purchased hosting from WordPress.com which is not recommended. It’s overpriced and locking features that are normally free when using WordPress.org.

Try to cancel your hosting subscription with the WordPress.com and find some developer to help you mowing your wix site to the WordPress (not com).

  2. WordPress comes in two flavours .com and .org when you host yourself you are using the .org version. I haven’t worked with the .com before but have made many a site on the .org version. You could probably get it done fairly inexpensively given your price range, if you’d like the assist, I can port your existing site’s design for you as a working store on a self hosted wordpress, feel free to DM me.

  3. You won’t be able to “just” move a wix website in to wordpress. They’re completely different entities.

So the site will have to be rebuilt within WordPress. Which a developer should be able to do (I’m a developer myself and use WordPress).

As others have said, you’re probably going to want to cancel that wp.com subscription and look at self hosted WordPress asap too (normally a developer provides this anyway).

  4. so basically, you don’t know what you’re doing, yet you still think its 2-3 hours work 🤣🤣🤣

  5. **As others have said, you purchased a plan with WordPress.com.** This tends to be a bit more expensive per month than buying hosting and using wordpress.org.

If you want to stick with that, you can. https://wordpress.com/support/introduction-to-woocommerce/ says the creator plan includes the option to add woocommerce.

To do it yourself you would pick a theme for your site and make new pages on the new site. Then you would copy and paste your text and upload any needed images. Basically you will just recreate it as there isn’t a good way to export from Wix.

Or you can buy hosting and have someone build you a new WordPress site on your new hosting account. For a small site on a shared hosting plan you would pay less than $25/month.

It is up to you. WordPress.com has some creative limitations while WordPress.org offers more flexibility. A developer can customize the latter in ways that are not possible with a creator plan on wordpress.com.

  6. I’vea similar task at hand, convert a client’s WIX shitsite to WordPress from scratch, w/out using any Page Builder plugins.

Suffice to say, it IS a long job.

  7. 2-3 hours work. Sorry but you’re out of your mind and have no concept of how this stuff works. Nor being rude just honest. Put aside at least $2k and have someone rebuild from scratch for you.

  8. Ok i understand you have wordpress.com subscription and you want to transfer your wix website there. As a WordPress developer i would suggest to go with self hosted wordpress it’s cheaper for the long run.

  9. As others have pointed out, it looks like you’re using the .com flavor of WordPress, which tends to be expensive month over month. It’s more recommended to purchase your own hosting and use the .org version of WordPress for maximum control & ownership.

Cost for a rebuild depends on the agency you go with and what option chosen for the build. A page builder might provide faster and cheaper results but also means a slower website, while a custom build will give you a cleaner and faster website at a much higher expense. I’m in the US and I’d probably be at around $2000 for a project like this (that’s not an offer for service just a ballpark). I’m usually cheaper than most agencies in my area. If you use a provider from a low income country like Pakistan or India, you could get it done for probably 1/10th the price.

My recommendation would be to use an agency that’s somewhat local to you. Make sure you get a legally binding contract for what they will build for you – pricing, timelines, etc…
