I am setting up my website and have used Salient as the theme. I use the Helvetica font for this. Only when I preview my homepage it shows the default font.
How are you using the Helvetica font? How are you applying it?

Helvetica isn’t a Google font. You need to install the web font files to do that. ThemeNectar have documentation on how to do that on their site – just a google away!
