Subdirectories vs Sub-Domains

[ad_1]

Hello, I’m needing to build a website for a business. The business is a woodworking business, but also a retail display business, so my client is wanting to basically split them into two different websites with a landing page that takes you between the two. My question is, should I use a sub-domain, subdirectory, or just a normal site with a ton of different, non-organized URL slugs? I really like the idea of the network admin, then the 3 separate sites, but I know for a sub-domain, they are viewed as completely different sites, which means you have to pay for 3 different hosting licenses, and basically x3 for anything you want on them all (such as visual composer). Is this the same way for a subdirectory? Or do I just need 1 hosting license, and 1 license per paid plugin?

  1. You do not need 3 hosting plans regardless of which option you choose. A single hosting plan can support many sites and subdomains.

You’ll only need multiple plugin licenses if you design each section as separate WordPress installations, however that’s not the only way to do that.
