Taking over an e-commerce website with theme base Avada

[ad_1]

Not sure where to start so looking for an experienced direction — want to transfer the site into Salient, Bricks, or something better. I would greatly appreciate any help here.

I have heard not-so-great things about this base theme, and my main question is how to handle editing the site without disrupting anything. Is there a way to duplicate it to an offline channel?

Currently, the domain is using a database with close to 10k unique items. I have basic knowledge of frontend at least.

Where should I start? Is there a go-to communal resource available?

Thank you!

  1. The first step on any site redevelopment job is to setup a development (or ‘staging’) site. Most hosts these days offer a function that does that. You can also setup a new record in their DNS like [dev.example.com]) and assign that to the dev site.

Alternatively, download “Local” from [Localwp.com]) and develop the site locally.

To move from Avada to another theme will mean a rebuild, due to Avada’s page builder not being compatible with anything else. So, I’d just do a refresh install on the new site and export/import whatever usable content I can (e.g. the woocommerce products), then get building!
