There is a notice for another plugin in the error log and I disabled that plugin and tried to run the media cleaner but still get the same error

It looks like a plugin catches the requests (by mistake) and return a web page, overriding the response from my server.
It’s a tough one.
The only way is to disable all the plugins, try again; then enable the plugin one by one while trying again to find the culprit.
You can do that when this message shows up, and click retry everytime 🙂
