Hello, all!
I’m working on a website that will allow users to submit different codes/snippets into given categories. Essentially, it’s an organized Pastebin alternative for a specific programming language.
Having purchased quite a large number of “all-in-one” themes, I can’t seem to find anything that would work as a good starting point. Most of these themes have page builders built in, features I’ll never use, and require plugins that slow down the website for the sake of said features. In essence, I can’t seem to find anything that will work for this project in my collection of themes.
Plugins are one of the things I’m wanting to avoid here. I have my set of plugins/customizations I’m planning to incorporate/use, but I’m not wanting to require myself to use 5-10 extra plugins for the sake of completing the look of the theme.
I don’t need anything super flashy, but I’m also not looking to go completely image-free, if that makes sense? For example, I have the Typology theme (https://mekshq.com/theme/typology/), which is along the lines of what I’m looking for – simple, easy to navigate, no-frills – but the theme doesn’t exactly lend itself to the “sign up and submit content” nature of what I’m aiming to do. I was considering the Zento theme (https://themes.estudiopatagon.com/wordpress/zento/home-3-columns/) for a bit, but it’s very “chunky” in design, almost cartoon-ish, but along the lines of what I’m aiming for.
Are there any themes (premium or otherwise – I don’t mind paying for the right fit!) that you would recommend or think might fit the bill?
Many thanks for your time!

Here is what I would do.
I would look at Formidable forms,(make sure you get the right package)
You can display things in directory views or listings
For users to submit use a form, and embed the emlemtor pro code highlight widget in it and users will be able to submit it.
If you want to step it up a notch you can also use ACF and a plugin such as FacetWP to search and or display by taxonokies or catabsories or etc etc.
But look at formidable forms or gravity forms and see what you like betters
Okay so here’s the thing. WordPress designs are in two phases. You have the theme, think of it like the bread of a sandwich. The theme generally takes care of the top of the page/top bread (the Header), the bottom of the page/bottom bread (the Footer), and maybe a sprinkle of salt and pepper (some basic typography and color styles).
The rest of the stuff you see after the menu Header, and before the bottom menu Footer, that’s Content, the filling of the sandwich. Your cheese, meat, veg, condiments etc. Content is designed within Pages in the backend. It can be with a 3rd party builder, or the built-in Blocks builder. But that’s why a lot of these crappy 3rd party themes come with so many plugins, they designed it with various plugins to make the content look that way.
If you want a more lightweight theme: Astra, Blocksy, Kadence. They might come with Companion Plugins, a singular plugin that adds some extra features to the theme. But the Content part of the theme will be up to you.
You can pair any of those themes with Kadence Blocks, Spectra Blocks, or WPStackable. Those will let you create the sandwich Content of your site within your Pages.
