Unable to access my site for years… Can’t contact support. Not sure what to do.

Built a website for my dad’s small business years ago. The site itself is still active and says its “powered by WordPress” but I quite literally have no idea how to access any administrative features. None of the emails I can think of are showing that they’re even affiliated with WordPress. At this point I’d be happy if I could just terminate the site all together so I could have my domain back and start from scratch. I’m really not sure what to do and not even certain anyone here will be able to help me, I just didn’t know where else to turn.

  1. Figure out who owns the domain, who is hosting the website, and move from there.

The domain, you can figure out by looking at your payments/invoices (credit card, PayPal, Stripe) – someone is paying for it yearly. Alternatively, do a [domain whois]) to figure out the registrar.

For the hosting, find the IP of the host by doing `ping -4 mydomain.com` in `cmd` on Windows, then do an [IP whois]) to look up the owner of the IP. Again, someone will be paying for this as well, so look at payments.

Once you’ve got access to the domain or the hosting, you can get access to everything else.
