Unknown Error (code: invalid ‘client_id’ or ‘client_secret’)

[ad_1]

Hi @tomwgf.

Thanks for reaching out, and sharing details of what you’re encountering and the troubleshooting you performed.

Considering you already tried the “Redo plugin set up” option, can you please perform a plugin reset and check once more (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit)? A plugin reset can remove all invalid credentials, with the error you’re encountering likely due to an invalid access token, as per this guide on the plugin website.

Let me know how you get on after resetting, or ask if you have any questions. Note that by resetting, you will need to connect all previously connected modules once more. Other administrators if any, will also have to set up the plugin once more.

hi
OK did that – and got: Site Kit by Google was successfully reset.
but it also says
Your site may not be ready for Site KitLooks like Site Kit is unable to place or detect tags on your site. This can be caused by using certain caching or maintenance mode plugins or your site’s frontend is configured on a different host or infrastructure than your administration dashboard.

which is .. odd, the site has been using google analytics for decades? the begining of google analytics. you can see my tags on https://wellmadewebsite.co.uk/

Thanks for the update @tomwgf.

Using Analytics with a manually placed snippet differs to setting up Site Kit, which can be set up without Analytics. The pre-setup warning you’re encountering is stating that not all the requirements may have been met in order to set up the plugin. You’ll find more on this below:
https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/troubleshooting/setup/#unable-to-place

As you’re site (great site by the way) has various optimizations performed, what I suspect is happening is the plugin has determined that some caching or optimization feature may result in the plugin not detecting plugin inserted snippets immediately. What you can do is use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin or temporarily disable any caching & cookie related plugin before attempting setup once more.

Let me know how you get on after performing once of the above.

i disabled all caching on the website and the server, ive installekd the troubleshooting plugin (whic says there are no issues)
and reset the site kit plugin a few times – still nothing?

Thanks for the update @tomwgf.

When you installed the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, did you activate troubleshooting mode and attempt Site Kit setup from there, with only Site Kit active? If so let me know what error you ran into after attempting set up and I can assist further on this.

hi
health check (: Good) i enable trbleshooting and site kit plugin – still says:

Your site may not be ready for Site Kit

Looks like Site Kit is unable to place or detect tags on your site. This can be caused by using certain caching or maintenance mode plugins or your site’s frontend is configured on a different host or infrastructure than your administration dashboard

Thanks for the update @tomwgf. In that case please share the following and I can check your setup further:

  1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
  2. Can you confirm that you’re not using a ‘re using a standard WordPress setup? By that I mean do you have any particular setup such as WordPress files or plugins in their own directory, or are you using a headless setup?
  3. Do you see any warnings or errors when checking yourSite Health status (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

1 – ok fille din the form
2. dont think so. ive been making sites since 99 and wordpress sites since 2010, and this is a standard divi theme’d site on standard 20i shared hosting (where i host and look after some 200-300 sites)
3. my Site health: Site HealthGood

Many thanks for the update @tomwgf. I’ve been performing some checks on your site and I suspect what may be causing this StachCache MU plugin you have active, which connects your site with your hosting providers CDN among other things.

Can you temporarily deactivate this at host level before attempting Site Kit setup once more? Note that if you see the same warning before set up, please proceed and continue with the set up process until you encounter any errors if any. Let me know what happens if this is the case, where the pre-setup warning appears but you proceed with set up anyway.

With regards your Google My Business query this doesn’t have any impact on Site Kit set up.

hi
i disabled cdn again at 20i and re-set site kit
and re-tried Set up Site Kit
and again got Your site may not be ready for Site Kit

but i tires to connect to my google account and got:

Error connecting Site Kit

The Site Kit setup was interrupted because you did not grant the necessary permissions. Get help

OK …. so maybe its becasue i didnt tick all the boxes (didnt realise i had to)
have now ticked all the boxes and it seems to have installed.

seems i was being an idiot then.
thanks for your help

(will see if i can enable CDN now as google likes speed…)

Glad to hear you were able to successfully complete set up. In some cases not all the permission related boxes are ticked during set up, at which point users must check each option before continuing.

If you run into any further errors be sure to reach out. And correct, good performance is always good for your site! Best of luck.
