Updating and Deleting Themes

[ad_1]

I have a number of custom wordpress sites developed with child themes (i’m not the developer) based on 2017, 18, 20, 21, etc. themes. As these themes accumulate can I delete old themes and just keep the most curre, 2022 or 2023 for example. What’s the reason or is there a reason for keeping the old themes if you are using a child theme? Thanks for any insights.

  1. Where you’re using a child theme, you must keep the parent as well. Delete everything else.

  2. On our 100+ sites we manage, we keep the active theme, the parent theme if we’re using a child theme, as well as the most recent default WP theme in case we need to diagnose some very weird problems by changing themes. So we just keep the Twenty Twenty-Three theme out of the defaults. Everything else from 2022 and earlier doesn’t need to stay.

  3. You need to keep the child theme and the parent theme, whatever theme that is. If the parent theme is 2017, you need to keep 2017 and the child theme, and can delete the other themes.
