I am experiencing the same thing. I LOVE THIS PLUGIN and hate the TOC in Rank Math. Marc, we appreciate your time to make this plugin. I deactivated it but then deleted, as I don’t like leaving deactivated plugins. Anyhow “update failed” started happening and had noticed there was an update about 9 hours prior which I did not see. BigScoots did a check and called it out and since I am not sure what I am doing (LOL) will see where I can get the error logs.
I understand that. SimpleTOC went through major changes for 6.0. In all my tests, there was no problem whatsoever with same posts. So I am desperately in need to know what causes this problem for some people, to fix this.

Here is what I tried to reproduce the error while someone could provide me with the error log:
- Generated a giant post with Cyrillic, Arabic and Japanese characters and tried to get an out of memory error
- Tried with both php 8.2 and php 7.4
- Downgraded WordPress to 5.9, 6.1 and 6.2.
I am still unable to reproduce an error 500 or run into problems updating posts. I am sure there is a problem with 6.0 but it is driving me crazy that I am unable to know that may cause it =)

Please update to 6.0.1 and tell me if this fixes the problem. This needs further investigation. And please tell me, if you use Rank Math. Thank you.
Marc, I have some error condition to give you but it exposes my site which I don’t want as posts cannot be edited here. I have RankMath. Is there away to direct message you the error details?

The issue says “A PHP session was created by a session_start() function call. This interferes with REST API and loopback requests. The session should be closed by session_write_close() before making any HTTP requests.”
I downloaded the version you provided up, upgraded to 6.0.1 and it “appears” to have gone away. I am editing some content so will keep tyring and keep you posted. However, happy to email you the error condition.
I am pretty confident that the problem is gone now and that is having something to do with “Rank Math” installed.
Please update to 6.0.1 or 6.0.2 and tell me if the problem persists. Thank you.
