According to the documentation when a JPEG gets uploaded and different sizes are generated these different sizes are then compressed with a quality level of 82. The original one is unaltered. Regarding WebP I can’t find any information. Does anyone know what WordPress does when uploading a WebP?

I think WordPress 5.8+ supports webp images. Might need to recheck tho
The same thing as JPG, PNG, GIF.
