Website Developer Mentor – side job

[ad_1]

Hello,

I am an aeronautical engineer in Atlanta, Ga looking into getting into website development for local small businesses, entrepreneurs, etc for a little side hustle. I have been learning WordPress for a few months now (Udemy lectures, youtube, etc) and am getting fairly decent at it. I have built a personal (branding) website and did a website for a few friends for various reasons in order to have a portfolio (all of my sites are linked on my personal site). I am looking to start looking for clients early in 2023 but I want to make sure I have everything necessary down first such as security best practices, best organizational format for taking on clients, pricing, etc. I am looking for someone who also does this to give me some pointers to starting? I have a few (potentially dumb) questions.

1. What are some best security practices?
2. Do you use BlueHost Maestro to manage client sites?
3. Once you create a site for a client, are you supposed to give them access to the site with their own credentials? Or are you just supposed to let them use the site while you ‘manage’ in the background for a small monthly fee?

Any feedback/resources/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

  1. >What are some best security practices?

    We have a few rules (at a university) for each site:

    * Anything on the path `/wp-admin` is limited to a range of IP addresses, forcing you to be on campus or on our VPN
    * We force two factor authentication for all users
    * Each site runs [WordFence])
    * Each site is connected to [MainWP]). This allows us to monitor and patch all sites from a central place.

This site will teach you how to build a WordPress website for beginners. We will cover everything from installing WordPress to adding pages, posts, and images to your site. You will learn how to customize your site with themes and plugins, as well as how to market your site online.
