Website down – too may back ups?

[ad_1]

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Any guidance or advice is very much appreciated!

Firstly, I am very much not an expert. I’m basically managing a website for the organisation I work for; updating, blog posts, adding pages etc.

For context – yesterday our website went down overnight. Earlier in the week I had updated lots of plug ins and Elementor but everything was running smoothly after, so I don’t think it would be related to this? (The only thing I haven’t updated is themes as I didn’t want to lose customisations).

My organisation informs me that this has happened before and was due to us going over our server limit. It was resolved by deleting the back ups that had accrued. However, the website is totally inaccessible, including via /wp-admin so I am unsure how to delete the old back ups in the hope of freeing up space and getting the website back up.

The last interaction I had from the site was an email informing me that it had automatically backed up themes at around 2am the night it went down, so to me this indicates that breaching capacity with too many back ups may indeed be the cause.

We use AWS for hosting.

Thank you for your time and I apologise if this is posted in the wrong place.
