I have used wordpress many times to make my own websites.
From time to time I have people asking me what would it cost to create a simple webpage for them.
So,
1. What is the typical charge to develop a one-page wordpress website with like a picture carousel, contact info/form and a blurb about the company (will also include webmail)?
2. Also, how much do I charge them monthly to host the website?
3. Does the above monthly charge cover small changes to the site that the customer requests, or is that typically billed separately?
(Note: I am on the east coast of US)
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

$1000-1500 if you set up all site, hosting, domain, do the design, image selection and editing, mobile optimization, SEO, plug-in configuration, form set up and testing, SSL configuration. I would make a list of every action you will provide. On a basic site like that, most of the work is backend set up stuff that the client needs someone to do. And if they see all the work involved they are more likely to pay the fee.
My guess is that u/billy-beats is doing more than installing plugins to build his sites. His price seems like it’s for a single page site with real SEO and design.
From the original question, my guess is that $1000-&1500 should be more like $300-$500 until you have more than a few sites under your belt.
Consider if you were the guy on the other end of the check and if you would feel like you got something worth the money you just paid. Everyone thinks being a developer is just about knowing how to use the one click install on a hosting service and installing some shitty theme and a bunch of plugins. That’s not web development. That’s WordPress user.
A landing page has an approximate cost of $250 including hosting and domain, and $15 per month for periodic maintenance, but prices could improve if the work is massive (if an agency hires us to resell our services).
