What’s the easiest way to fix broken WebP images, and why did they all break?

[ad_1]

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone could help me.

I read that webp images we better for website speed, so I spend about a week changing all of my png images to webp (manually), and a few days after I finished, at least 50% of my images are broken/only showing the little broken icon.

My 2 questions are:

  1. Why / how the hell did this happen?

  2. What is the easiest / best way to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is super frustrating!

Thank you in advance,
ElectricRains.

  1. I think we might need to be able to see your website to help.

The fact that this only started happening a while after you changed the images makes me feel like a plugin might be involved.

Also usually you’d have a PNG/JPG fallback for your images, so I’m curious to see the current setup.

  2. how did you convert the images to webp? do you still have the original pngs? are you referencing the pngs in your website or the webps?

  3. Use Smush. It will optimize your images and can serve Webp to those browsers that can use them and PNG or JPG to the others
