What’s the process of delivering a website to a client from beginning to end?

I know how to build websites for myself completely. But I am having a hard time understanding certain things about the client process. I can’t find any clear answers on what I am asking on google. Things I’d like to know are:-
1. Do I use my own WordPress account and build it there, then export it? Or do I create a WordPress for the client and do everything there?
2. How should I handle purchasing the domain name and hosting? Do I tell the client how to purchase it and what to purchase? Or do I take their credit card information and make all relevant purchases for them myself? Is this even a common practice?

If any of you have a process that you go by for every client that works great feel free to share. Sorry I am new to the client stuff and I don’t want to seem unprofessional.

  1. As always. It depends.

    1. Will you be using WordPress.com or hosting the WordPress installation on a reseller platform?

    2. Discuss the options with the client. If you’re going to be purchasing and managing the domain, charge for this service. Never handle credit card details. If you’re going to talk the customer through purchasing the domain and configuring DNS records, then charge for this also.

  2. “*Do I use my own WordPress account*” – if you’re referring to [Wordpress.com]), no you should not be building websites for clients on [wordpress.com]). You should be using [Wordpress.org]).

Get the client to buy the domain name. For hosting – whilst you can certainly host the clients yourself, that’s a very advanced topic, and it sounds like you’re new to this, so I’d recommend initially using managed hosting services like SiteGround – get the client to setup the account, then add you as a “[collaborator]”
