When you “publish” something on WordPress is it published on the internet or on WordPress’s feed?

Let’s say I created and published a website about different “types of leaves” and I’m using the free version:

– Domain is .wordpress.com
– Not paying for an annual plan
– No webhosting

Will it still pop up on as a search result if I google “types of leaves?”

If not, what do I need to do for it to be published on the web where others can see it when they search for something similar. What are the cheapest options to do this, as I wish to pay the bare minimum and I’m not looking to sell anything. I just want to share information online that is searchable for the world.

  1. Yes it’s possible on the free plan. You might want to research the basics of SEO eg moz.com and sign up to Google Search Console. Getting your content into google for a new site can take several weeks/months.

  2. Google has bots called crawlers that go through internet and try to index websites. When they land on your website they should find out what’s your site is about by getting content and Metadata that’s inside your HTML code. If your theme is properly written and you have some SEO plugins with filled Metadata, they’ll pull that data inside google database and you’ll find it on Google. As other user said it could take a while for crawlers to index new content.

  3. WordPress.com *is* a web hosting service.

If you make a free site with them, then it is on the web and it is like any other website.

However, wordpress.com is not WordPress. WordPress is free, open source software that anybody can download and use how they like. WordPress.com is a web hosting service run by a company named Automattic.
