Yesterday I upgraded to their new service which includes features that has wondering if plug-ins I installed may be superfluous or redundant. I am not a developer and as a WordPress user I would say I am just a bit knowledgeable but not a noob either.
For starters, WPEngine Advance Network includes CloudFlare which includes Polish which they provide in the “Lossless” not “Lossy” version (Lossy is compression so part of CF paid service). Bottom line: my images are being optimized by CloudFlare in WPEngine Advance Network.
WPEngine Advance Network includes backup via VaultPress.
I hired people a couple years ago to work on the site. One flew the coop and the other was in a serious car crash. Both are unavailable to me and there are legacy issues I want to clear up.
My main concern is that Google flagged my site for Malware a couple days ago even though I was running Securi plug-in and I got no alerts from Securi. WPEngine helped clean it up (using Securi!) until my site passed (submitted all of it to Google but review still pending). I have hardened my site — removing plug-ins, removing themes, changing passwords. At this point I want to remove all unnecessary plug-ins.
Here are my plug-ins that may now be superfluous or redundant
– Jetpack
– Askimet (which is within Jetpack)
– WP Rocket
– Yoast SEO
– Imagify
– Media Deduper Pro
– Simple Sitemap
– WP Sitemap Page
– Sucuri Security
– UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore
– VaultPress
Any thoughts from folks who know more than me?
