Hi all,
I tried [wordpress.com](http://wordpress.com) today, with a very bad surprise after I paid for the Starter plan. Usually, I self-host everything, but I wanted a more practical solution.
After the installation, I tried to install a plugin to disable the REST Api for unauthenticated users. And boom: a popup appears, saying that I need to upgrade to the Creator plan.

I was stunned. This is more than Shopify for a simple blog. How could you use a WordPress website without \*any\* plugin?
Did I miss something? I immediately came back to the pricing page. And honestly, it’s absolutely not obvious at all.
I didn’t see what it in red because it was obvious to me that any wordpress install would allow plugins installation.

So, I am not here to complain about my own mistake, but I think it would be good if the starter and explorer plans contain a line : “no plugin installation” or something like that, no?
That would be fair.
Thanks

A practical solution for beginners is a hosting provider with cPanel and Softaculous installer.
I made the same mistake.
WordPress.com does not make it clear that their first two plans can’t install plugins.
I actually purchased the Starter plan, realised my mistake and immediately applied for a refund.
WordPress.com is very expensive. I don’t know how they can stay in business with their prices.
Get a refund+ I think they have a 7 or 14 day refund policy.
Bruh just get a Hostinger Hosting, cuz they offer cheapest, plus you won’t need anything to pay wordpress ever – [https://hostinger.com/pricing](https://hostinger.com?REFERRALCODE=1AIFORGEGUR06) literally Starts at $1.99
that will not even be that much costly, plus all a better Cpanel and database with backup.
let me know if you want service, I even design and upload/set up website.
Edit :- You mean $40 per Month/- so for a year about 480 euro 💀💀💀💀💀💀
bruhh you can literally get cloud hosting or your personal VPS for less than $150 for a year. I thought it was $40 for a year.
I have been a Hostinger user for the past 5 years and have never faced any issue plus their support is good
Plus you get SSL free regardless of where you buy your domain
I’m on the Creator plan and gotta say it does take care of all the mundane stuffy and security (important)
Pros:
1. Better than self-configured cPanel or VPS cloud server, unless you’re a pro
2. Stable, fast, secure
Cons:
1. Doesnt allow creation of multiple staging sites
2. Live chat support is sometimes “offline“
