I’m currently in the process of building a WordPress website.
My domain is with cloud flare.
I have a need to install a couple of plug-ins – but WordPress tells me I need to spend $300USD on a creator account, with no monthly alternative option.
Is there any advantage to doing it this way? Or is there another solution or way to install WordPress plugins?

Self-hosted WP, a.k.a. wordpress.org.
But you need to arrange your hosting elsewhere.
Yeah, the solution is to not use [wordpress.com](https://wordpress.com). They are a hosting company that provides a locked down experience of WordPress unless you pay to access basic features.
Ask for hosting recommendations in r/hosting or r/webhosting. On any other host you can install the normal version of WordPress, which means installing all the plugins and themes you want at no additional cost (other than normal hosting costs).
As mentioned, WP .org is much better and will be cheaper (depending on what you need) This article will help you understand the difference between .com and .org : [https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/self-hosted-wordpress-org-vs-free-wordpress-com-infograph/](https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/self-hosted-wordpress-org-vs-free-wordpress-com-infograph/)
$300 per year is a fairly reasonable price for a year of hosting if you ask me. WordPress.com is a decent option if you want a managed host.
