WordPress Internship

I’m a upcoming Junior CS major and all I was able to land was a WordPress internship at a small local company to recreate one of their old websites in WP + add eCommerce functionality w/ SEO, hosted on GoDaddy. I have no previous experience w/ web development or these tools.

Right now I have the base layout complete w/ the help of the OceanWP theme and WPcode, and am starting to work out eCommerce (wooCommerce) + SEO (currently using TSF) to start adding their products to the site. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make improvements and integrate my coding experience to hopefully make the best of this internship, and also extend the time out to complete the site?

  1. Make sure the mobile experience is optimized, mobile traffic is 75-85% of visitors today.

Run the pages through PageSpeed Insights and optimize all the parameters above 90%.

Run it through SEO Checker as well and optimize above 90%.

You can offer to install a translate plugin and offer the website in one more common local language (ie. Spanish).

You can offer to run and manage some ad campaigns on Facebook, Reddit, Taboola.

Install a back-up plugin and setup automated backups to Google Drive or similar.

Setup Google Analytics and setup custom events to track call-to-action clicks (ie. checkout, add product to cart, payment complete, etc).

Optimize website for A11Y (accessibility), run the website through an A11Y checker to find issues.

If you’re in EU, setup a cookie manager and privacy policy pop-up.
