Hello community much more knowledgeable than myself. Third website that I am putting together with WordPress, and I have a goal that I am not sure how to approach, and I am hoping I can get some suggestions.
My customer is going to have an influx of registered users to their site upon deployment, and they want the main form of communication with everyone to be through email. I have been looking into the User Registration plugin by WPEverest as a potential way to build the registration and login forms to collect initial information, but I am not sure the best way in which to segment the users so that each individual receives emails only relevant to them.
The content on the site will be about organizing sporting events, and each new member of the site will have to provide information such as skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and what they are interested in (training, tournaments, open play) among other things. So for example, everyone who selected that they had an interest in open play should be able to receive emails about open play, and if we have an event for male beginners, than all male beginners who are registered to the site and have that preference could get the notice.
I could make separate embedded forms and have them all link to different mailing lists through a mail service provider’s API, but I was wondering if there was a smoother way to do this (preferably based on the initial form so that the user does not have to sign up for multiple lists) like tag classification to create automated groups. The other consideration is what would happen if a registered user wanted to change their preferences through their “My Account” type page and be added to or taken off of a list? Any guidance will be welcome on the best way to structure this sort of problem, thank you for your time!
