WordPress vs Static CMS?

[ad_1]

Hey guys when would you pick WordPress over static CMS such as Publii? Publii seems to have pretty awesome sites built with it even though it's still alpha – https://getpublii.com/showcase/

And their sites seem to load really fast on cheap / free hosting.

  1. No way. Better dynamic than static. You can easily create a static site from WordPress if needed.

  2. If you’re looking for alternatives, I’d give Statamic a look. It’s not free but it can be just about anything you need it to be.

  3. I don’t think Publii is alpha per se, they are just one of those projects that are stuck on zero point versioning. 🙂 Been around for years now.

Publii is an interesting middle ground combining dynamic CMS and static site.

On CMS side what matters is – do you like it and does it fit your needs? Now and what you might need later?

On hosting side things are a little more harshly differentiated. With static site you are giving up any dynamic back-end driven functions: comments, search, and so on. What you are gaining is much lower hosting costs (effectively zero for any smaller site) and much less maintenance overhead.

I’ve blogged for many years and at the peak frequency I used WP because I needed the power of dynamic site, but as I became less active at it I moved to a static site to escape the pressure of hosting bill and endless updates.
