Work fully paid for but client is busy – what to do?

[ad_1]

Hey all,

I have a client for whom I’ve been working on a design and development project since February of last year. I received an upfront payment and then got the remaining balance before I started development. During this time, I know the client was busy, as her emails were hacked among other disruptions, which is why I was patient and allowed the project to drag on.

I finished development and provided her with the staging link to the site (on our domain, etc.) about two weeks after design approval. I have been trying to get her feedback and response, but she has been extremely busy and unresponsive. I’ve called her every two weeks or so, and she either doesn’t pick up or, when she does, she informs me that she is busy, etc.

I’ve already received full payment for the project, and out of my generosity, I have decided to be patient with the client even though my terms and conditions are stricter. Generally, I would just charge extra or dispose of the whole project if they didn’t respond in the specified time, but I decided to let this slide.

I called the client and offered to migrate the site over to the hosting provider for free as is, and for her to reach out later if she wants any changes. Alternatively, if she doesn’t want it to show up online, I can migrate it over to her hosting and then enable a lock on the site so it can’t be seen, and she can come back to it later. She said she was hoping that I could hold onto the site longer so she can return to it when needed, but it’s too much of a resource strain and hassle for me personally. I just offered to give her the website files, and she can use a web designer in the future to access the files and resume the project if need be.

The project has been in my pipeline for ages, and it’s not feasible for me to continue on longer. I’m looking for suggestions on what to do in terms of exporting the files. Should I just export the public HTML folder or use a backup plugin and provide that file? Where do I store this folder that I export, assuming it’s going to be large in case she doesn’t download it from her email?

Thanks, all!
