WP Rocket vs Speculative Loading

[ad_1]

Hey,

Does the new Speculative Loading plugin do something differently than WP Rocket? I’m just an SEO, so my knowledge of how plugins actually work is limited and I became lost while reading the breakdown in the description and recent SEJ article.

I’m always on the lookout for solutions that could help enhance speed / performance, but want to understand this a little more before recommending it to my team.

Is there a key difference that makes this something worth exploring right now?

  1. Speculative Loading works in a fundamentally different way from regular cache plugins.

With the Speculative Loading plugin when WordPress loads a page it will be able to “see” the links to other pages on that page and then preload or prerender those pages in anticipation of what the website visitor might click on to next.

It seems like a great idea but this is just a first version meant for testing only. If they get it working the way they want I expect it to be moved into being in WordPress core and then you will see cache plugins like WP-Rocket being able to make that function part of their tools.
