WPVivid using fake countdown for permanent sale price

I had heard good things about the plugin, but when i saw the 20% offer and a countdown, i almost bought it out of sheer FOMO.

[This resets every day, and has been doing so for months apparently](https://preview.redd.it/cpupihae1opc1.png?width=589&format=png&auto=webp&s=b52fb5c2aed2b53fe72ab52a3c8d21b7a17d9684)

Ive heard of these kinds of fake promotions, but its the first time ive felt rushed to buy because of it.

I chose to save the money for now, and then later realized i almost used over 200 dollars on a software that tried to trick me into buying it?

I contacted WPVivid about it, telling my experience with their choices, and felt like their answer kinda ignored it and did not care.

“We are not trying to trick anyone” – But that is exactly what a fake countdown does??

They cannot even defend it, because after i ask directly, they stopped replying.

So i almost used over 200 dollars on a plugin that tried to trick me, and developers who know, dont care, lie and ignore you for mentioning it.

Are these kind of countdowns normal and just part of the game?

Am i wrong for feeling scammed and kind of offended by it?

I might have expected it from small, unknown plugins, but not one this big.

  1. Have seen others using the same trick. Fake but not a big deal, IMO. Marketing in general is fuzzy with the truth.

BTW, may also consider updraft. Last I checked it’s the only plugin that does remote backups w/o needing the space locally to make the whole archive first. That has saved me money for otherwise unnecessary disk space.

  2. Its Marketing.

Ever seen the popups like „Christian just bought from Miami“ all fake too 🙂

  3. It’s unfortunately common practice in marketing.

Since the beginning of mankind, to make money you have to manipulate others into absolutely want and need what they have for you.

The tactics are getting better and better and yes you can rightfully think you got tricked, but theres not much you can do about it.

I personally avoid those who use FOMO. But i can’t be sure at all not to get tricked in to “now i need that product”.

It’s our brain and companys know how to benefit from that.

  4. Sites that use the repeating count down timer are kind of lame but the plugin saved me probably 50 -100 hours worth of work when I restored a backup.

I use it for manual backups and auto backups every 3 days I think.

It all saves to Google drive.
