Are some plugins faking what they do?

I came across the Tweet that says that WP Optimize is cheating PageSpeed and other testing tools. Did you notice such behavior? Source: [https://twitter.com/GijoVarghese\_/status/1563097754322501632])

  1. Lol, BUSTED!
I’ve always wondered how they were able to get such high scores on such heavy sites.

    Cheating. Cheating was the answer.

I’m interested in any other caching plugins do the same thing, like WPRocket etc.

  2. I’ve seen plug-ins that purport to do a thing only to have that thing behind a paywall and all you’re doing is essentially installing an ad into your dashboard.

I’ve even seen a particularly shit plug-in do a thing very well for a few versions only to lock its functions behind a paywall with an update.
