Back to theme development after years of pause, feel lost

Hi!

I’m working on a theme which I plan to sell on a marketplace.

Way back I had an entire framework built on top of Unyson page builder and had a ton of elements and features, but today they are completely outdated. Just the thought of not having a real-time drag & drop editor is enough to drop that codebase.

So I started from scratch.

I plan to use Elementor as the page builder, and so far I’ve already created the framework and started working on styling.

But when I checked newer wordpress default themes I got lost. They’re HTML?!

So far I’ve been still using the old way – php templates, but I’m not even sure this “standard” is still accepted.

It will probably not be a problem to switch to something else, not too late, but it would still be best if this won’t be a problem.
