I am really looking for a theme that is well setup, uses the customizer properly and provides a good base to build on. I use ACF Pro blocks, custom templates and the like, but integrating useful key components is a pain. I have AstraWP Pro right now. I actually rate this pretty highly for a super commercial theme, but I find myself “unengineering” it too often and am looking to shake away my membership (it was a crutch for moving over to WP from Joomla! while I learned the logic).
Their free base theme is excellent, but there are some features that are Pro only that are superb. Mainly have colour palettes and complete google webfont set in the customizer. This allows for excellent prototyping and then having the customer say “But I don’t like that colour”…of I go. Sure, I know mixins, but for that real-time adjustment while on a client call can save hours of backwards and forwards.
If anybody has advice on getting more out of either Picostrap or Understrap to have them integrate well with mixins and webfonts, shout now!
