file structure for 2 websites, is this ok?

[ad_1]

I am hosting 2 websites. I manage them with cpanel. Both websites seem to be working fine. In file manager I notice the website1 folders and files are all loose in here. Website2 folder is mixed in with them. So if I look in public-html I see all the files and folders for website1, and a website 2 folder is there as well. Is this structure ok? Will it cause any issues or is it fine to leave like this?

Here is an example of what the structure looks like.

/home

* random folders
* public-html
* website1 wp-admin, content, etc
* website 2
* website 2 wp-admin contents, etc

  1. It’s not good for security, assuming the same linux user accesses both sites – malware can infect the other site. Sites should be in their own folder, owned by a different linux user for each site. I’m not sure if that’s possible in cPanel – I frequently see cPanel servers with all sites hacked.

  2. In regards to functionality it’s fine. There can be security issues when hosting instances are not properly isolated. I think you’ll be fine as long as you keep an offsite backup for each. 👍
