Experienced this earlier as well. However, the solution is to insert a code block via the “+” and then insert the code into it. Inserting code into the paragraph is a bug that is open at Gutenberg according to this issue: https://github.com/Automattic/blocks-everywhere/issues/60

Ah, ok thanks for the infos. I can see know that copy/paste does work after selecting a block (paragraph or code, etc.). So all good.
I had misread the placeholder:
“Type / to choose a block”
..as:
“Type / choose a block”
So was thinking that I could just start typing OR choose a block. It would be faster/easier to just start typing and/or paste text directly, imho.
