Company wants to move to WIX

[ad_1]

I have been a web designer a small company for a couple years now and have been using WordPress in combination with some site builders for our multiple sites. I personally like WordPress for its open source nature and flexibility as well as the ease of making my designs functional with site builders. As a one man web team I need to be able to design, create, and launch very quickly.

Recently some others at my company have been making a push for WIX and saying that it would be a lot faster and easier for my workflow. I gave them my initial concerns (limitations, being stuck to WIX hosting, closed source) but am still receiving the push to switch. I suggested I build a site with it to get familiar with the program and I have my reservations after using it.

Am I just being stubborn in not wanting to use a new platform or do I have cause for wanting to stay on WordPress even though I am only using site builders as it is? I graduated with a web design degree and feel like WIX has the stigma of being for non-designer (which I know is the same stigma my CS friends had about WordPress for developers). Any opinions or arguments I could make for sticking with WordPress that I maybe haven’t thought of yet?

INFO: I am currently using a small site builder that utilizes grid systems and love the platform. Our sites are medium size company sites that show off our product, not too much interaction and nothing too fancy.

  1. In order to make a right judgment, you need to fully understand their reasons for wanting to move & have counter points (if any) for each.

They may just want to move because, it’s the net thing and everyone is doing it. Or because they have seen other websites designed by WIX and they think that if they move then their site will look like that.

They may also want to move because they want something that multiple people can easily work on.

There are a lot of potentials

  2. Nope, you’re 100% right to avoid Wix for all the reasons you mentioned. Wix is for people who don’t know what they’re doing.

Don’t let non-professionals push you around and the mere fact that they’re suggesting Wix shows they don’t know what they’re talking about. And “a lot faster and easier” NEVER works out to be the same quality.

Tell them that, in your professional opinion, Wix is not an option.
